Laryngitis Saga: My Journey to Vocal Healing

Brooke Brunson Season 1 Episode 2

Send us a text

Welcome to my Blogger With a Twist—a podcast about lifestyle, self-improvement, and personal stories.

In this episode, I discuss my journey with being sick these past few weeks. I caught a cold that turned into laryngitis, which, needless to say, has been a hot mess.

Besides that, I also share my plans for this upcoming weekend. In which I will be going to the movies as well as attending an early Christmas dinner with friends. Full of laughter and good food.

That said, grab your snacks, and let's get this episode started.

Hey guys, my name is Brooke, your fellow podcaster entrepreneur and creative artist from the East Coast and welcome to my podcast blogger with a twist. So my podcast, I'll mainly be talking about lifestyle topics. I might do some rants or story times, but basically whatever comes to mind is the gist of this podcast. So if you guys find that interesting, and you want to know more.

00:37
then subscribe, share my podcast with your friends and family, and last but not least, sit back, relax, grab your favorite snack or food, and let's get this episode popping. Hey, guys, it's your girl Brooke, and welcome back to a new episode. So I know that I have not made an episode in a little over two weeks.

01:05
And that is mainly because your girl has been sick, I know. Of course I would get sick after I made an episode talking to you guys about me being more consistent. But basically what happened is that about two weeks ago, I started having a sore throat. And then as the days progressed on, I started coughing, sneezing, blowing my nose.

01:34
you know, all of the symptoms of the common cold. And then later on, I started noticing that my voice started to get really hoarse to the point where every time that I would talk, it felt like I was straining my voice. And also I would get, and also I would get a shortness of breath.

02:01
And so after dealing with all of that, I did end up going to see a doctor. Now, prior to me making my doctor's appointment, I had did my own research online, and from what I had found out, I concluded that there was a strong possibility that I probably had a case of laryngitis, which is something that you can get from having a cold or the flu, or if you overuse your vocal cords.

02:30
So a lot of singers also suffer from laryngitis. Or even if you're not a singer, and say you go to a concert or something, and if you are screaming at the top of your lungs, you can also get laryngitis that way. And so even when I was making my appointment with the receptionist, she even confirmed to me that it sounds like you have a case of laryngitis. And so when I went to go see the doctor later on that day,

02:59
After I made my appointment, the doctor basically confirmed what I had already thought. And so she ended up prescribing me some antibiotics, steroids, an inhaler because I did tell her about my shortness of breath. And she put me on voice rest for five days and also gave me a note.

03:28
that I could take back to my job. And so I'm not going to lie to you guys, being on voice rest for those five days was kind of hard because I like to talk. And I remember I kept thinking about when I got COVID for the first time, like back in early 2021, and I did end up losing my sense of smell and taste for about like five to seven days.

03:57
So thinking about that just made me think, well, what if my voice gets worse and I can either never talk again or my voice stays hoarse forever? I might as well rebrand my podcast as either the silent podcaster or the hoarse podcaster. I know maybe I'm being a little bit dramatic, but I just kept thinking like, why me?

04:26
Okay, like, I need to talk. I'm a podcaster. Okay. So definitely being on voice rest. Um.. I definitely feel like it did help. But there were times when I would catch myself trying to talk, even though I wasn't supposed to talk. But, you know, if you're used to talking, and then now you're kind of like restricted, it can be kind of hard sometimes. So

04:53
There were times I had to kind of like stop myself like Brooke, you're not supposed to be talking. Like, why are you talking? And so since, then you guys. My voice has actually gotten a little, a little bit better, even though I know you guys can still hear the hoarseness in my voice. My throat isn't sore anymore, but I'm still like coughing a little bit. I'm pretty sure.

05:23
that whatever type of cold that I had was probably from a virus. And you know, with it being flu season and stuff like that, I'm not that surprised I got sick. But at the same time, it's definitely not something I wanted to happen. But I mean, who really wants to get sick? And so I've just been trying to take it, you know, day by day. And hopefully, you know, one day this hoarseness will go away.

05:52
forever, but I just wanted to come on and update you guys on everything because I just felt so bad about not being consistent and just not making content. And so other than your girl having this horrible voice and sounding like a dying cat, everything else is going good. I mean, work is okay. I do have some more stories to tell you guys.

06:22
I'll probably do that in another episode. I am going to see the Sonic movie this weekend, and I'm super excited about that. Yes, I am a big kid at heart, and I'm really excited to see Shadow. From what I've seen from the trailers, it looks like it's gonna be really good, and I'm super excited that Jim Carey...

06:48
is in the film because I think Jim Carey is hilarious. So I'm going to see that on Saturday of this weekend. And then also I'm going over my friend's house. She's having a dinner and I already said that I'm making the baked mac and cheese. So I'm also definitely trying to get better this week because I got things to do.

07:13
Okay, like your girl has been out of the game for like two weeks now and I'm tired. Okay. I'm so tired. But other than the job, me going to the movies this weekend, me going to my friend's dinner,  um everything else is going good. Also for those of you guys out there, if you are looking for some last minute gift ideals,

07:43
I'll leave a link to my latest blog post in which I listed my top 25 picks from Amazon and what else. Also definitely check out my Etsy shop. I did upload some new digital products and I'm also working on a digital calendar for 2025 and I'm so excited about that.

08:12
The link to my Etsy shop is going to be in my linktree link. So definitely check that out. And what else? Um, I think that's it you guys, so thank you guys again for listening to this episode. I know this episode is kind of short, but like I said, I just wanted to come on and update you guys on what has been going on with me.

08:40
and just why I have not been making content. And I'm so sorry that you guys had to listen to my terrible voice.  Um.. like I said, I'm hoping that it will eventually go away. And I don't know if I'm coming out with an episode next week since next week is Christmas. So if I do not come out with a new episode, I just want to say,

09:09
Merry Christmas. I hope you guys have a great holiday and happy 2025. Talk to you guys later. Peace.
