Send us a text

Hey everyone, and happy Friday to anyone tuning in!

So, after two months of unemployment, your girl landed a new job.  In this episode, I share what I like about my new job, what I do, and how things have been going.

Besides finding a new job, I also had a fun photoshoot collaboration last Sunday with Anthony - a local photographer in the Philadelphia area.

To top this episode off, I share my first small business shoutout.
As my way of helping raise awareness of other small businesses.

So that said, this week's shoutout goes to Mental Health Matters.
Small business, bringing awareness to the stigma around mental health.
In the form of mugs, shirts, hoodies, etc.

And other than that, sit back, relax, grab your snacks, and let's get this episode poppin'!

Hey you guys, my name is Brooke, the host and creator behind blogger with a twist podcast and welcome. So basically on my podcast, I'll mainly be talking about lifestyle or story times or rants or pretty much anything that comes to mind that is the gist of my podcast. So if that sounds like something you would like to know about, listen to.

00:28
Then subscribe, share this podcast with your family and friends. And last but not least, grab your favorite snack, whether it's popcorn, chips or whatever, and let's get this episode popping. Hey, you guys, and welcome back to a brand new episode. And hopefully you guys out there doing good. So I know last week I did not drop a new episode.

00:56
And that was because I started my new job and just trying to get used to the hours and just working again. So for this week's episode, I thought that I would come on and talk to you guys about my new job and how everything is going, as well as about my photo shoot that I had last Sunday. And lastly, I will be doing a special shout out.

01:26
because I want to do a series or something on the podcast where I shout out different small businesses because as someone that also has a small business, as far as my blog, the podcast, my Etsy shop, and my Redbubble shop, it is not always easy to get your name out there and for people to really see your stuff.

01:52
So that being said, if you guys want to know more, then grab your snacks and let's get this episode popping. So yes, you guys, your girl finally has gotten a job after two months of being unemployed. So after, so um I cannot get my words straight. So I want to say about a week after I uploaded my last episode.

02:18
That is when I had my job interview and then I got hired about two to three days later. So last week I started my training and then this week I've been working more shifts alone. So typically it's about like three to four, no, three to five people that work there including the managers. Normally everybody works by themselves. So

02:46
My first week of working by myself, I'm not going to lie to you guys, has been kind of nerve wracking, but everything is going smooth. As far as the job, I am working as a sales associate at a gas station, specifically Exxon, and the one that I work at is 24 hours. So recently I've been working overnight shifts and I'm not going to lie to you guys.

03:13
It's been a change because typically when I do work, I don't work overnight because I like to sleep during the night. Because I remember the last time I worked an overnight shift. This was a couple of years back when I worked at Children's Hospital and I worked as a parking attendant or parking cashier. And I remember I had took a break and I started dozing off at like five o'clock in the morning.

03:42
So after working that shift, I realized I am not an overnight shift person. But yeah, definitely doing these overnight shifts. I feel like it's been kind of messing up my flow because I like to work out during the early afternoon, late morning. So just trying to get adjusted to taking naps throughout the day. So I can stay up all night.

04:07
It's just killing your girl. But hopefully I can get earlier shifts because when I got hired for this job, I did specify to the manager that I would rather work a earlier shift, like a day shift or morning shift or an evening shift. But unfortunately, because of the job that I work at, sometimes they may need people to work overnight.

04:34
in case somebody calls out or maybe somebody gets suspended from the job due to something that they was not supposed to do. So yeah, it's been kind of tough because I was supposed to have an early shift this Wednesday, but unfortunately one of the people that worked there, they got into trouble with the company and

04:58
They got taken off of the schedule, so I have to work their shift, which I'm not that happy about honestly, but I don't have a lot of options and your girl needs some money. So other than working overnight hours and stuff like that, I do like the job. So I'm going to tell you guys what I like about the job. So the first thing is that I can wear colored nail polish.

05:28
So when I worked at Starbucks, I didn't really get my nails done a lot because I like to wear color. And when you are working in the food industry and working around food, they don't want you to have any colored nail polish because they don't want the nail polish to chip off and potentially fall into somebody's drink or food. So it's nice that I can finally start getting my nails done on a regular basis.

05:55
The second thing that I like about this job is that I do not have to wear a hat. So kind of the same thing with the food safety stuff. If your hair is covered, then it's less likely that a piece of your hair is going to fall into somebody's drink or food. And you know, having curly hair, textured hair, when you wear a hat, you kind of smush it down, you know? So I like that I don't have to worry about that anymore.

06:25
The next thing that I like about this job is I do not have to smell like coffee. Now I'm not saying that smelling like coffee is the worst thing to smell like, but as someone that doesn't drink coffee, I do not like smell like that. So it's a nice change. And also in case, you know, I plan to go out after work, at least I'm not smelling like a cup of coffee.

06:52
The next thing I like about this job is my manager because I feel like they do not have favorites and they treat people equally, you know, so I really like that. And lastly, I get paid every week, which is nice because I have not gotten paid weekly since I worked at Macy's, which I want to say was at least about 10 years ago.

07:18
But overall, you guys, I like everybody that I work with. And like I said, besides being used to working overnight, everything else is cool, copasetic. So that is how the new job is going. And I will definitely keep you guys updated if anything changes. The next thing that I want to talk about in this episode is my photo shoot collab that I had last Sunday.

07:48
So like I told you guys in my last episode, I did mention about my upcoming photo shoot. So the name of the photographer that did my photo shoot, his name is Anthony, and he is a local family based photographer here in Philadelphia. And so it was really cool to do this photo shoot with him because I have not had a photo shoot done in such a long time. So.

08:16
I was kind of nervous taking the pictures, but everything turned out so good. So the photo shoot, we did it at Rittenhouse Square, which for people that are not from Philly is basically like this area that has this nice park. And so that particular day that we did the photo shoot, I didn't realize there was something happening at the park. I think it was some type of like art festival.

08:45
So I definitely feel like that kind of made me like a little nervous because I did not expect to see so many people at the park. But I will tell you guys this much. I had this guy like jump in and take a photo with me during my photo shoot, which I thought was so funny. And it really kind of made me feel like, am I a celebrity? Like, am I famous? Like, ohh, I like this. So.

09:12
I will probably definitely be posting that photo because it was such spontaneous and like I just, it just made me feel so happy inside like, hey girl, you really popping. You got people jumping in to take photos with you. Like, so I don't know if the guy and his wife, I don't know if they were visiting Philly. I don't know, but it was a really cool moment. So probably once I pick out which photos that I want.

09:41
I will post them on my Instagram page and I probably will be writing a blog post. But definitely if you are from Philly or maybe you're not from Philly and you are looking to get some photos taken, I would definitely recommend working with Anthony. I will leave the link to his Instagram and a link to his website if you guys want to check him out. But like I said, I had a blast doing the photo shoot.

10:10
He definitely made me feel really comfortable and it was just good vibes all around. And then lastly, I will be doing my shout out for this week's episode. So this week's shout out goes to drum roll please. Mental health matters on Instagram and they have an amazing shop called embrace healings, which really focuses on.

10:38
helping people with their mental health. And so to kind of give you guys some more information about this amazing shop, I'm going to read you guys something from their website. So it reads as, embrace the importance of you. Embrace, healings, shop creates designs, focused on mental health for t-shirts, sweaters, hoodies, mugs, you name it. Your mental health is top priority.

11:08
and I'm here to help you embrace the importance of you. Your worth is undeniable and you are truly valued. Join the movement and raise awareness. We can fight this together." And so I really love that message on their website because when it comes to your mental health, you should definitely make it a top priority. And also they do have a shirt that's called, I Am A Survivor and I feel like

11:38
For anybody that has ever been a victim of maybe domestic violence or sexual assault or rape or anything traumatic, I feel like a statement like that that says, I am a survivor, it definitely makes you stronger. For example, I think I did make an episode about this where I did talk about my experience of being sexually assaulted.

12:07
and how I was scared and I didn't know where to turn and I didn't know who to tell. So going through those experiences in my life, I definitely feel like made me a stronger person. And so yeah, you guys definitely check out this amazing shop that is full of positive affirmations. Also, they have some really cool, fun designs for the Halloween season. So I will leave the link to their shop and their Instagram.

12:37
in the description of this episode. Also one, and also one more thing before I go, if you guys like to customize your phone with different wallpapers, I did release some fall-themed wallpapers. You guys can check them out on my Etsy shop. My Etsy link is in the description of this episode. And other than that, you guys, thank you guys for tuning back in.

13:05
And make sure you guys check out Anthony if you need some photos done here in Philadelphia and definitely check out mental health matters and their website for some amazing merch that really does speak to mental health. And lastly check out my fall themed wallpapers on Etsy which are combatable which are compatible I'm about to say combatable which are compatible.

13:34

13:56
