Fundraiser Update to Fun In The Sun At CamelBeach Mountain Waterpark
Join me, Brooke, on a journey that's a feast for your senses. Picture this - a bustling city fundraiser, the aroma of deliciously fried fish and the heartwarming ambiance of a community coming together for a cause. That was my experience at the Urban Sports Rescue fish fry. Tony, the founder, was an outstanding host, and the perfectly flaky fish, crunchy fries, and surprisingly delightful coleslaw, were the stars of the show. And, if you're itching to see what all the fuss is about, head over to my Instagram @bloginphilly for a visual treat.
But, my adventures didn't stop there! I swapped city streets for the mountainous terrains of the Poconos. Despite a drizzle, Camel Beach Water Park was a thrilling experience. Walking up the incline was a struggle, but the rides and the unexpected leg workout made it worthwhile. And then, there was the Chinese food, a culinary delight that added a cherry on top of my adventure-filled weekend. So, buckle up, as I take you through a rollercoaster weekend of food, fun, and a mountain of surprises!

Hello you guys and my name is Brooke and welcome to my podcast. Blogger with a twist, and I am your host and a creator. So what you guys can find on my podcast is topics about lifestyle, rant, story time or anything else I find interesting to talk about. So if that sounds interesting, then subscribe, tell your family, friends or whoever about my podcast and, last but not least, sit back, relax, get your snacks, munchies or whatever, and let's get this episode to pop it. Well, hello you guys and it's your girl, brooke, and welcome back to a new episode and happy Friday.
Speaker 1:So hopefully you guys out there are doing good and you're having a good start to your Friday and you're going to have a good weekend. And I know that for a lot of people, friday is exciting because either A it's payday, it's time to get that money, or maybe you're just excited because it's the weekend and you've worked all week and now you can finally relax the weekend and forget about the BS that you have to deal with at work. But if you do work on weekends, like I do, I just wanted to say that just think about your money and how nice your paycheck is going to be, because a lot of times on Saturdays when I have to be at work at like 6 or 7 o'clock in the morning. If I had a choice to go back to bed and not go to work, I would definitely take that choice, but because I like my paycheck, okay, I got to go make the big, you know. So, yeah, I know working on the weekends can be kind of rough, especially in the summertime, because, say that, on Friday night you decide to go out with your friends and you turn up and have the best time ever, and then now you got to turn around and be at work on the Saturday. So, yeah, it's not fun at all and, child, please, I cannot wait until I get to the day where I'm working for myself and I don't have to get out of bed for no one.
Speaker 1:But besides that today's episode, I'm going to be answering a question that one of my listeners wanted to know in regard to the fish fry fundraiser by Urban Sports Rescue that I attended back in April of this year. I honestly thought that I made an episode given an update about what happened at the fundraiser, but I guess I didn't. So I'll be talking about that and then, lastly, I'll be talking to you guys about what your girl did up in the polka nose the last weekend. So, like I say in my intro, grab your snacks or whatever and let's get this episode popping, okay? So first I'm going to start off with the question about what happened at the fundraiser, like how did everything go?
Speaker 1:So, for those of you guys that are tuning into my podcast for the very first time, basically back in April I got a message on Instagram from a man named Tony about his nonprofit organization here in Philadelphia called Urban Sports Rescue, and basically he was asking me to help spread the word about their fish fundraiser that they were having on April Sunday, april 30th, at Luton choose, which is a restaurant in North Philadelphia. And so at first I was a little taken aback because, for one, I've never been invited or asked to help support an event or cause based on me being a social media influencer. So I was taking a back in a positive way, it wasn't like in a bad way. And then, number two, because I don't have a huge following on Instagram or really on social media, I was just super surprised that Tony actually contacted me so fast forward to the actual day of the fish fry. So the day of the fish fry. It was actually raining, okay, so I ended up taking, I think, a lift or an Uber, because, even though Philadelphia is my hometown, okay, as far as me going like to North Philadelphia, I don't go to North Philadelphia a lot, so I didn't. I wasn't that familiar with the area.
Speaker 1:And so when I got inside of Luton choose, I met Tony and basically Tony, we were just talking and he started, you know, just thinking me or spreading a word about the fundraiser and just coming by to help support the organization. After I talked to Tony for a little while, he gave me a ticket so I could get a fish platter. And when I tell you guys that food was so good, the fish was nice and flaky on the outside and inside wasn't dry, like it was just seasoned to the gods. The french fries that came with the platter were also good. And then the cold slaw. Okay, let me tell you, okay, for somebody that doesn't eat cold slaw, like I'm typically a potato salad or a macaroni salad type of gal I was really surprised at how good the cold slaw tasted, like it was so good. I ate every drop of that cold slaw. I really did.
Speaker 1:But overall, you guys, I had a really good experience at the fundraiser. You know everybody at Luton choose was welcoming and one side got inside and kind of like settled down a little bit. I did not feel as nervous. They had good music. I love, like the, the decor that they actually had inside the restaurant. So I did make a reel on my Instagram from when I was at Luton choose for the fundraiser. So if you guys want to see that real, then follow me on Instagram under the name blog in Philly. If you guys don't know how to spell that, all of my social media links will be located in the description of this episode and, as always, if you guys have any more questions you want to ask me, email is also located in the description box.
Speaker 1:And then, lastly, I'll be telling you guys about my adventure in the polka news. So last Saturday my friend, our husband and I went up to the polka nose to go to Camel Beach Mountain Water Park, which is located in Tannersville. So prior to going up to Camel Beach Water Park, I think the last time I went to the polka nose it was for a church retreat and I had to been maybe about 14, 15 years old maybe. So it's been almost a good 20 years since I've been up to the Poconos. And so on Saturday my friend came in her car to my house to come pick me up and after she picked me up, we drove back to her house to wait for her husband to pick up the rental car from the airport. And so once her husband came back to the house with the rental car, we packed in our things inside the rental car. We also took her dogs with us because we were going to drop off her dogs with her mom, since my friend is from the Poconos and her mom still lives in the Poconos.
Speaker 1:So I want to say it took us about two hours, maybe two and a half hours, to get up to the Poconos and we decided to meet at a halfway point between the water park and my friend's mom's house. So we ended up meeting up at a Wawa's and we ended up just switching cars. So her mom ended up taking the rental car back to the house and we took the mom's car to the water park and it was a lot easier than us trying to get the dogs out of the rental car and in the mom's car. That was just too much. So anyway, I want to say we actually got to the water park close to noon and I want to tell you guys, it was super hot and it was definitely a lot of people, but it was the perfect day to go to a water park and cool off.
Speaker 1:And I have to say, for my first time going to Camel Beach, I had a really good time. The only thing that kind of got me off guard was the fact that mostly every ride that we went on we had to kind of walk on like this incline. When I tell you, my legs got to work out. Ooh child, I really was like work you out of shape. But overall, besides me struggling a little bit with walking up the hill to get to the rise, we had a very good time.
Speaker 1:For lunch we did get some barbecue which they had inside the park, and then before we left we got some Rita's water ice, I got myself a cherry gelaté and so after we left the water park, while we were in the car going back towards her mom's house, my friend kind of gave me like a little tour of the area. We did end up going inside of a waste which is a supermarket up in the Poconos. I had never been inside of waste, because I'm used to going to fresh grocer or Acme or Shop Right. I mean, to me it looked kind of like a Shop Right, not that much different. So we went into waste to get something to drink. But yeah, we did a little bit more sightseeing before we got back to her mom's house and we ended up spending the night. And when I tell you guys, I was really tired, like after we had dinner at her mom's house, maybe about two hours later I went to bed, I crashed, and I have to say that sleeping up in the Poconos not only is the air nice and clear, but you will get a good, nice rest, because it was just peace and quiet.
Speaker 1:And so Sunday morning we woke up and her mom Cooked us breakfast, and so after we had breakfast we Got dressed and got back on the road On our way back into the city. We did stop and we got some lunch at this restaurant. I think is Like a fusion. Well, not a fusion, but it's a restaurant that serves Chinese food and Sushi. Um, I think the name of the restaurant is called Ichiban. I Think I'm probably butchering up the name. So if you guys want to see the rail that I made From my little experience at the restaurant then definitely check out my Instagram.
Speaker 1:But Basically, what I had to eat was one time soup, chicken egg Fu young and a version strawberry Decorate for my drink, and Let me tell you guys, it was delicious. Like anytime I go to a Chinese restaurant, my go-to is Always one time soup and chicken egg Fu young. That's probably two of my favorite dishes to get a Chinese restaurant. Um, so, after we had lunch, it mind you, it was pouring, raining from the time we left her mom's house Up until we got back to Philly. But I will say that once we got back to Philly it wasn't Raining, but you could tell that it was raining at one point. But as we got closer to Philadelphia, that's when the rain kind of stopped.
Speaker 1:And so, yeah, you guys, that was my adventure in the polka nose. Last weekend I went to Camel Beach Water Park, I had a good time and then I got to see a little Tour of the polka nose and I had some delicious Chinese food and yeah, yeah, your girl had a fun weekend and yeah, I think that's all I have to say for this episode.
